EMEM (Eagle's Minimum Essential Medium) is a cell culture medium developed by Harry Eagle in 1959. EMEM is designed to meet the basic nutritional needs of mammalian cells and contains amino acids, vitamins, inorganic salts and other ingredients required for cell growth. Due to its simple ingredients and stable effects, EMEM is widely used in various cell culture experiments, especially for cell types that do not have particularly high nutritional requirements. In addition, EMEM is often used as a basal culture medium, on which serum or other supplements are added to meet the growth needs of specific cells.
