Product Overview

G-418 (Geneticin) is an aminoglycoside antibiotic. In molecular genetic experiments, it is the most commonly used resistance screening agent for stable transfection. G-418 (Geneticin) can interfere with the function of 80S ribosomes and affect protein synthesis in eukaryotic cells. It is mainly used for the selection of mammalian, plant or yeast cells. G-418 (Geneticin) is toxic to bacteria, yeast, higher plants, mammalian cells, protozoa and worms. Its resistance gene is a dominant phenotype and is located on both Tn601 (903) and Tn5 transposons. Although this gene is derived from bacteria, it can also be expressed in eukaryotic cells. Introducing resistance genes into cells can cause resistance to G-418, allowing cells to grow in culture medium containing G-418. This selection property of G418 has been widely used in gene transfer, gene knockout, resistance screening and transgenic animals.
