HEPES is called N-2-Hydroxyethylpiperazine-N-2-Ethane Sulfonic Acid, and its Chinese name is 4-hydroxyethylpiperazineethanesulfonic acid. It is a commonly used biological buffer with pKa (25℃) = 7.5 and an effective buffer range of pH 6.8-8.2. The biggest advantage of HEPES is that it can keep the pH range of the solution constant for a long time in an open environment. HEPES cannot pass through biological membranes and has limited effects on biochemical reactions. It is a chemically and enzyme-stable substance, and HEPES has extremely low absorption of visible light and ultraviolet light. Therefore, it is generally believed that HEPES is an excellent biological buffer with no toxic effects on cells. The final concentration used is 10-50 mM, and 10 mM is commonly used in cell culture.
Precautions
1. This product is sterilized by 0.22μm filtration;
2. When using this product, pay attention to aseptic operation to avoid contamination;
3. Please store it away from light in time after use. Studies have reported that HEPES in the culture medium will produce hydrogen peroxide that is toxic to cells when exposed to visible light for more than 3 hours;
4. This product is only used for scientific research or further research, not for diagnosis and treatment.
