EDTA (ethylenediaminetetraacetic acid) solution is a chemical chelating agent that can chelate divalent metal ions such as Ca2+ and Mg2+. Its solution is also called Versene solution. Since Ca2+ and Mg2+ are important components of cell membranes and have the function of agglutinating cells, EDTA can destroy the connection between cells and promote the dissociation of cells into single cells. EDTA is less toxic, inexpensive, easy to use, and will not destroy cell surface molecules. It only binds to Ca2+ and Mg2+, so it is suitable for cell digestion that requires detection of cell surface molecules. It is also often mixed with trypsin solution in a certain proportion.
Precautions
1. EDTA will not be neutralized. The digested cells should be washed once with PBS, otherwise it will easily cause difficulty in cell adhesion;
2. When using this product, pay attention to aseptic operation to avoid contamination.
